Jamie Furia is the founder of Furia Internal Investigations. Before founding the firm, Jamie was a partner at Lowenstein Sandler LLP, where she represented corporations, government entities, and individuals in white-collar criminal defense matters, internal and external investigations, regulatory compliance matters, and commercial litigation.

Most recently, Jamie served as the Director of Persuasion & Advocacy and the Director of Deposition Skills at Seton Hall University School of Law. She also taught Introduction to Lawyering at the Law School.

Jamie has authored articles published in Law360, Bloomberg Law, and the New York Law Journal.

Internal Investigations

Jamie’s extensive white-collar practice included highly sensitive internal investigations for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to state agencies.

Representative Matters:

  • Served as a deputy member of the team that conducted an independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and other workplace misconduct within the Dallas Mavericks’ business operations. The seven-month investigation involved 215 interviews and review of more than 1.6 million documents, culminating in the public release of the Report of the Independent Investigation of Dallas Basketball Limited, which set out detailed findings and recommendations for changes to the Mavericks’ management practices.
  • Served as a senior member of the team that conducted an investigation into allegations of abuse of inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women, New Jersey’s only women’s prison. The publicly released report led to then-Governor Phil Murphy’s decision to order the permanent closure of the facility.

Criminal Litigation

Jamie’s criminal litigation practice spanned the country, in both federal and state courts, and included matters involving bribery and public corruption, criminal antitrust, health care fraud, and securities fraud. Her clients operated in a range of industries, including the pharmaceutical, technology, and financial services sectors.

Representative Matters:

  • Represented a defendant charged in a wide-ranging corruption scheme in the Southern District of New York surrounding the former president of the United Nations General Assembly.
  • Represented a public company in connection with a U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division investigation into allegations of price fixing.
  • Represented a public company in connection with an internal investigation pursuant to Section 10A of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 into accounting concerns raised by the company’s independent auditors.

Civil Litigation

Jamie litigated complex commercial cases in state and federal courts throughout the country.

Representative Matters:

  • Successfully represented a partner in a business dispute that resulted in a $50 million judgment for civil racketeering, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty.
  • Successfully represented a pharmaceutical corporation defending against RICO and Consumer Fraud Act claims in a class action lawsuit.

Pro Bono

Jamie is committed to representing individuals in need on a pro bono basis.

Representative Matters:

  • Successfully secured asylum status for refugee from Syria.
  • Successfully secured asylum status for unaccompanied minors from Central America.
  • Successfully represented victims of domestic violence at final restraining order hearings.

Jamie served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Katharine S. Hayden of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Jamie received her law degree, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was a Distinguished Public Interest Scholar and served as a Comments Editor of the Seton Hall Law Review. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from New York University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
